SKATEMASTERS USA started in 1996 with the vision to create a network of roller skating clubs across the nation. The founder, Mitchell Irving, with the help of a few others who believed in the vision, started Skatemasters, USA in Kansas City, Kansas. The group of eight friends were among the first skate groups to begin appearing at skating rinks with coordinated jerseys bearing the name of their club and city. This was fast becoming a trend to 'represent' and Irving immediately knew he was on the fast track to success. In 2007, the organization was renamed Skatemasters USA National Skating Association to continue to develop roller skating clubs and to begin developing clubs for people who enjoy other skating styles. Today, SMUSA has over 16 chapters nationwide with over 700 members and has expanded into youth development with 14 Junior Skatemasters chapters nationwide. The organization's presence has expanded internationally with the charter of a club in Ontario, Canada. From jam skaters to ice skaters to skateboarders-we have all kinds of skate clubs available. Anyone with a love for skating should be a Skatemaster!
